Community Manager

Carlton Country Club Villas is a 130-unit affordable housing community in Santee, and Logan Property Management needs someone who can step in, get oriented fast, and keep operations steady. This is a three-month LOA coverage role, which means the property isn't yours to rebuild from scratch. It's yours to maintain, protect, and hand back in good shape.

Logan has been in the affordable and conventional space since 2002, woman and Latina-led out of San Diego, with a portfolio that now spans California, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona. They've built real expertise across both affordable and market-rate verticals, and the people they place in interim roles are expected to carry that standard without a long ramp-up period.

The day-to-day here centers on site operations, resident services, and staff coordination. The compliance piece carries real weight: Carlton Country Club Villas operates under affordable housing regulations, specifically Section 42 tax credit requirements and/or Project-Based Section 8 under HUD. If you've managed a tax credit or HUD property before, you already know that income certifications, file accuracy, and regulatory deadlines don't pause because a manager is on leave. That's the core tension of a temp assignment at an affordable property. You're accountable to the same compliance standards as a permanent manager, with less runway to learn the files.

Candidates who do well in interim community manager roles tend to share a specific quality: they're comfortable making operational decisions without institutional memory behind them. You'll be reviewing T-3 and delinquency reports you didn't generate, working with a maintenance team that already has its own rhythms, and fielding resident concerns from people who'll ask when the regular manager is back. Adaptability and a calm, consistent presence matter as much as technical knowledge here.

From a career standpoint, LOA coverage assignments like this one are genuinely undervalued as growth opportunities. Three months running an affordable site on your own record demonstrates something a permanent role at a large company sometimes can't: that you can hold a property together under pressure, maintain compliance, and keep a team functional without leaning on established relationships. Regional managers and owners notice that. If your longer-term goal is a permanent community manager seat or a step toward a regional role, a clean interim assignment at an HCV or Section 8 property adds real credibility to that path.

What the role requires

  • Prior experience managing an affordable housing community (Section 42 tax credit and/or HUD Project-Based Section 8)
  • Ability to oversee daily site operations, staff coordination, and resident services independently
  • Familiarity with income certification processes and affordable compliance documentation
  • Strong communication skills with residents, ownership, and regulatory contacts
  • Availability for a three-month temporary assignment in Santee, CA

If you've covered interim community manager roles before or you're a seasoned affordable housing manager looking for a well-defined short-term engagement, this assignment is worth a close look.
