Leasing Consultant

Multifamily operators have learned that lease renewals and resident satisfaction don't happen by accident. They happen because someone is consistently showing up, communicating clearly, and making residents feel like the property actually cares about them. That's the gap this role fills.

MG Properties, a Western U.S. owner-operator with over three decades of apartment acquisition, development, and management behind them, is hiring a Part Time Resident Services Coordinator at Shift Apartments in San Diego. This isn't a traditional leasing role, though you'll assist with leasing when needed. The core of the job is communication and community: handling resident correspondence around lease questions and service requests, planning and running resident events, producing the monthly newsletter and events calendar, and keeping the overall resident experience feeling intentional rather than reactive.

What the Day-to-Day Actually Looks Like

On a typical shift, you might start by working through the communication queue, responding to email inquiries, logging service requests, and following up on anything outstanding. From there, you could be finalizing details for an upcoming resident event, coordinating with vendors or staff, and checking that the amenity spaces are operating properly and policies are being followed. There's also a competitive awareness component: you'll stay current on what nearby communities are offering so the team can respond to market shifts. When leasing needs an extra hand, you step in.

It's a role with real variety, which means you need to be genuinely organized. Dropping the ball on event logistics or letting communication pile up affects residents directly, and residents notice.

Who Tends to Do Well Here

  • Strong written communicators who can shift tone between a friendly event announcement and a policy reminder without sounding robotic
  • People who take initiative on follow-through rather than waiting to be reminded
  • Customer service backgrounds that include handling complaints or escalations calmly
  • Basic computer proficiency and comfort with property management or communication platforms
  • Valid driver's license and flexibility for occasional travel off-site

What separates strong candidates from average ones in this specific role is the ability to build genuine rapport with residents over time. Anyone can answer an email. The people who thrive here are the ones residents actually recognize, trust, and come to with concerns before those concerns become problems. That kind of relationship doesn't come from a script; it comes from consistent, honest communication and follow-through.

This is a part-time position compensated at $23/hour, with monthly bonuses and company profit sharing included. MG Properties also offers paid time off accrual and paid sick time for part-time team members, which is worth noting in a market where part-time benefits are often minimal.
