Maintenance Technician II (Ironworks)
Prometheus Real Estate GroupMaintenance at a Company That Invests Long-Term
Prometheus Real Estate Group has been holding and operating apartments in the Bay Area since 1965, and their approach shows it. They don't flip properties or chase short-term yield. That means the maintenance team is expected to care for communities the way a long-term owner would, not just patch things up until the next sale. For a technician, that distinction matters day to day.
This Maintenance Technician II role sits at the Ironworks community in Sunnyvale, a market where residents have high expectations and operational standards follow suit. You'd be part of the team keeping the physical experience of living there consistent and reliable.
What the Work Actually Looks Like
A significant part of this role is turns. When a resident moves out, you're running the make-ready process from start to finish: completing the punch list, troubleshooting whatever the previous occupant left behind, and getting the unit back to a condition that earns the next resident's confidence. The work spans appliance repair and installation, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting. No single discipline dominates, which means you need real breadth rather than deep specialization in one area.
Service requests fill the rest of your schedule. Prometheus calls their residents "Neighbors," and the expectation is that you treat the relationship that way. When someone submits a work order, they're trusting that you'll show up prepared, communicate clearly, and actually fix the problem. The customer service component here isn't a soft add-on to the job description. It's central.
On-call availability is required, so this role does carry after-hours responsibility. That's honest. It also comes with standby pay and on-call premium pay, which reflects that Prometheus has thought about how to compensate people fairly for that commitment.
- Minimum two years of apartment maintenance experience
- Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, appliances, carpentry, and painting
- Comfortable using basic computer tools (work order systems, email)
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally; most work is performed outdoors in moderate temperatures
- High school diploma or GED required
- Strong English communication skills for resident interaction and workplace safety
The Team and the Upside
Prometheus is a vertically integrated company with over 500 employees and a portfolio of more than 13,000 apartments across Silicon Valley, Portland, and Seattle. That scale creates real internal mobility. Technicians who develop strong diagnostic skills and build trust with their site teams often grow into lead tech or maintenance supervisor roles over time. The company also offers a Training Coach Bonus and educational assistance, which signals that they'll invest in developing people who want to grow.
Pay runs $31.00 to $32.25 per hour, with a semi-annual discretionary bonus and additional incentive programs including referral and renovation bonuses. The benefits package covers medical, vision, and dental at 100% for employees and eligible dependents, along with 401(k) matching, tenure-based housing discounts, and twelve paid holidays including your birthday.
If you care about the physical quality of the place where people live and you want to work for an owner who does too, the fit here is worth taking seriously.
