Maintenance Technician II (Freewell, Carson, Raleigh, & Saltwood)
Prometheus Real Estate GroupPrometheus Real Estate Group runs a portfolio of over 13,000 apartments across the Bay Area, Portland, and Seattle, and they've been at it since 1965. That kind of tenure means their properties get maintained, not deferred. This Maintenance Technician II role covers four Portland communities: Freewell, Carson, Raleigh, and Saltwood. If you've worked multi-site before, you know the rhythm. If you haven't, expect to learn it quickly.
The work is bread-and-butter apartment maintenance. Turns, service requests, appliance repairs, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting. You'll troubleshoot major mechanical systems and handle minor repairs independently. Prometheus calls their residents "Neighbors," which signals something about how they expect you to treat people. Residents who feel ignored or dismissed will let you know about it, and you'll need to de-escalate that while still getting through your punch list. That's the real job.
On-call is part of this position. That's not buried in the fine print here. After-hours calls happen, and if you've been in apartment maintenance for more than a few months, you already know what that means for your personal schedule. The standby pay and on-call premium are real compensation for that time, not token gestures, but the expectation is genuine availability.
Prometheus is a vertically integrated company, which matters for a tech because capital improvement projects, value-add renovations, and lease-up activity all create additional work at the property level. There are bonus opportunities tied to some of these, including renovation and lease-up bonuses, which means a busy property can translate into more take-home pay.
What this role requires
- Minimum two years of apartment maintenance experience
- Hands-on competency across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, appliance repair, and painting
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying conditions
- Basic computer proficiency for work order systems
- Availability for on-call rotations
- High school diploma or GED
Pay runs $26.00 to $27.25 per hour, and the benefits package is genuinely strong. Prometheus covers 100% of medical, vision, and dental premiums for employees and eligible dependents, which stands out. There's a 401(k) with employer matching, a semi-annual discretionary bonus, paid volunteer time, and tenure-based housing discounts. They also offer tuition reimbursement, which matters if you're thinking about an HVAC certification or electrical license down the road.
One thing worth noting for candidates who are serious about growth: multi-site technician experience at a company with in-house renovation and development capabilities tends to build a broader skill set than a single-property position would. Techs who do turns efficiently, keep delinquency in maintenance work orders low, and communicate well with property managers often move into lead tech or maintenance supervisor roles faster than they expect. The exposure across four communities accelerates that.
