Full-time
On-site
Cupertino, California, United States
$27 - $28 USD hourly
Maintenance Technician

What You'll Actually Do

This is a hands-on maintenance role covering the full scope of day-to-day upkeep at a Prometheus residential community in Cupertino. The bulk of your time splits between two areas: completing service requests from residents and turning units between leases. Turns require moving through a punch list efficiently. You're diagnosing and repairing plumbing, appliances, carpentry, electrical, and paint issues across both occupied and vacant units. Minor repairs are yours to complete independently. Major mechanical systems require your troubleshooting skills even when the fix escalates to a specialist.

On-call availability is part of the job. Emergencies don't follow business hours, and Prometheus builds standby pay and on-call premium pay into the compensation structure to reflect that reality. The hourly range runs $27.75 to $28.75, with semi-annual discretionary bonuses and additional incentives tied to renovations, lease-up activity, and referrals.

What You Bring

  • At least two years of apartment maintenance experience, hands-on rather than supervisory
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, appliances, carpentry, and painting at a residential level
  • Comfort with basic computer use for work order systems
  • Physical capability to handle outdoor work, lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, and sustained physical activity throughout the shift
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, in English

Where This Role Can Take You

Maintenance Technician I is genuinely one of the better entry points into a long-term property management career. The skills you build here compound quickly. Technicians who develop strong turn efficiency and can handle a wide range of repairs without escalation tend to move into Technician II roles, then Lead Tech, and eventually Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager positions. At companies with a large portfolio like Prometheus, that path is internal rather than requiring a job change. The renovation bonus structure signals that there's also a track toward capex project work for techs who prove reliable on larger-scope repairs.

Prometheus extends benefits that are notable in the multifamily space: fully company-paid medical, dental, and vision for eligible employees and dependents, 401(k) with employer matching, tuition reimbursement, and tenure-based housing discounts. The housing discount in particular is worth noting for someone working in the Bay Area. These aren't perks to gloss over.

If you're two years into apartment maintenance and want a stable platform to develop your trade skills and build toward a supervisory role, this posting is worth a close look.
