Maintenance Technician

PeakMade Real Estate manages student housing, multifamily, and build-to-rent communities across the country. This Maintenance Technician role sits at a property in Charleston, South Carolina, and it's a hands-on, full-scope position covering everything from daily service requests to scheduled preventative maintenance to unit turns.

Day to day, you're moving between service requests, pool chemical logs, exterior cleanup, and whatever the make-ready schedule demands. In a student housing environment especially, turns are intense and time-compressed. When a semester ends, dozens of units need to be punched and ready before the next wave of residents arrives. Speed matters, but so does doing the work right the first time.

You'll work alongside the Maintenance Supervisor to manage parts inventory, follow the preventative maintenance calendar, and keep curb appeal sharp. On-call rotation is part of the job. Emergencies don't wait, and this role requires someone who can respond without needing a lot of hand-holding.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of maintenance experience, ideally in apartment or student housing
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and appliances
  • EPA Type I and II certification preferred
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to live within 30 miles of the property
  • Comfortable working weekends, holidays, and rotating on-call shifts
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds, work at heights on ladders, and handle outdoor work in extreme temperatures
  • Your own hand tools

Pool maintenance is part of the scope here, so CPO certification (or willingness to obtain it) is worth noting. PeakMade offers technical certifications including HVAC and CPO, plus a leadership development track for those looking to move into a Maintenance Supervisor role over time.

Strong candidates in this type of role tend to be self-directed on the small stuff. Supervisors notice who handles the routine without being reminded and who communicates clearly when something is outside their scope instead of guessing. That combination of initiative and honesty is what separates good techs from great ones.

PeakMade offers a 401(k) match, paid parental leave, 15 days of PTO plus two additional wellbeing days, monthly renewal bonuses, and a 10-year anniversary trip, among other perks.
