Maintenance Technician

It's 6:47 a.m. and a resident calls about a water heater that died overnight. By 8:00, you've diagnosed it, pulled the part, and the unit has hot water again before the resident leaves for work. That's the job at Lakeside Village Apartments in Clinton Township.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

Paragon Properties is hiring a full-time Maintenance Service Technician for Lakeside Village. The role covers the full range of day-to-day maintenance: handling resident service requests, completing make-readies on vacant units, and keeping the property's curb appeal and physical condition where it needs to be. You'll do basic drywall patching, painting, and rough carpentry as part of unit turns, and you'll troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, major appliances, pool and spa equipment, and HVAC systems.

This position includes after-hours on-call rotation, including weekends and holidays. That's the part some people underestimate when they apply. The call volume and timing are unpredictable, and the expectation is that you show up and solve the problem. Paragon does pay an on-call bonus for after-hours coverage, and there's a quarterly team bonus on top of base pay, which runs up to $26 per hour depending on experience and certifications.

HVAC certification (Type II or Universal) is strongly preferred. If you don't have it yet, the company offers a training and certification program. A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a high school diploma are required. Trade school or college-level technical training is a plus. Pre-employment background check, drug screening, and a physical are required before you start.

Who Fits This Role

  • At least one year of hands-on maintenance experience, whether from a technical program, vocational training, or direct on-the-job work
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all seasons, Michigan winters included
  • Solid understanding of safety procedures across trades
  • Customer-facing mindset: residents interact with you directly, and how you handle those interactions matters as much as how you handle the wrench
  • Consistent, dependable attendance. The property doesn't run itself when someone doesn't show up

The benefit package includes paid time off, nine company-paid holidays, a rent discount, 401(k) with employer contribution, and medical, dental, and vision insurance with a short enrollment waiting period. Company-paid life and disability insurance are included. You'll also receive a tool kit after completing the initial 30-day training period and a company uniform.

Strong technicians who build their HVAC knowledge and demonstrate reliability here tend to move into lead tech or maintenance supervisor roles over time. The hands-on breadth of a role like this, covering everything from appliance repair to pool equipment to electrical troubleshooting, builds a foundation that carries across any multifamily property.
