Where Technical Skill Meets Team Leadership

In apartment maintenance, the assistant supervisor role exists at a specific inflection point: you're still doing the hands-on work, but you're also responsible for the quality and coordination of everyone around you. It's a role that rewards people who've spent years sharpening their trade skills and are ready to apply that knowledge to a team, not just a work order. Weinstein Properties is hiring a Maintenance Assistant Supervisor for Bexley Steelecroft, a residential community in Charlotte's Steele Creek corridor on the south side of the city.

Weinstein owns and manages its own portfolio, which matters in practice. There's no third-party management layer, no fee compression from an outside owner, and a clearer path from property-level performance to company-level recognition. For maintenance professionals, that structure typically means faster decision-making on repairs, capex approvals, and vendor relationships.

What This Role Requires and What It Builds

This is a hands-on position. You'll work alongside your service team diagnosing and repairing issues across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, appliances, carpentry, drywall, pool systems, and exterior structures. EPA/CFC certification at Type I and II or Universal is required before you start, and real HVAC repair experience is non-negotiable. You'll also need at least four years of trade experience total, with a minimum of one year in a lead, assistant supervisor, or supervisory role in apartment maintenance specifically.

Beyond the technical baseline, this role builds something distinct: the ability to manage work order flow, schedule turns efficiently, coordinate vendor work alongside in-house labor, and hold quality standards across a team rather than just your own output. You'll use property management software to assign work orders, track inventory, and communicate across the team. On-call rotation is shared, with a $150 weekly bonus regardless of call volume, plus an additional $150 per holiday on-call.

Compensation starts at $25 per hour depending on experience, with quarterly bonus potential up to $1,110 based on property and team performance. Benefits include vacation and sick time, holiday pay, health insurance, a rent discount, and a 401(k) with company match.

What separates strong candidates in this role from average ones isn't just trade depth. It's the ability to hold quality control through a team, meaning your punch list standards become their punch list standards, your make-ready process becomes the team's process. Supervisors who can only do the work themselves create bottlenecks. The ones who succeed here teach the standard while still working in it.
