A prospective resident walks in on a Saturday afternoon, a little overwhelmed by the apartment search, and within twenty minutes you've toured them through the property, answered every question about the neighborhood, and followed up with a personalized email before they've made it back to their car. That's the rhythm of this role at The Aspen in Alexandria.
Van Metre is hiring a Leasing Consultant for The Aspen Apartments, a residential community in Alexandria, VA. The core of the job is building real relationships with both prospective and current residents, converting interest into signed leases and keeping occupancy strong through genuine service rather than high-pressure sales tactics.
Day-to-day, you'll handle inbound and outbound leasing activity: greeting walk-in traffic, conducting tours, following up with leads by phone and email, processing applications, and running lease renewals. Grassroots marketing is part of the mix too, so comfort with social media and community outreach matters. You'll also stay close to the resident experience after move-in, checking in on service requests, coordinating with the maintenance team, and helping organize resident events alongside your colleagues.
The physical side of the job includes three exterior inspections per week and regular checks of vacant units to flag anything that needs attention before the next turn. Weekend availability is required.
Compensation starts at $19.00 to $20.00 per hour depending on experience, with an annual bonus potential of $5,000 paid quarterly, plus leasing and renewal commissions. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, a company-matched 401(k), tuition reimbursement, paid certifications, mentoring programs, and an annual wellness reimbursement of up to $900. Paid time off includes 11 holidays, 10 vacation days, 10 sick days, two volunteer days, two personal days, a day off for your birthday, and a day off for your annual physical. Parental and bonding leave is also part of the package.
One thing worth noting for candidates thinking about career trajectory: leasing consultant roles at managed communities like this one are a common entry point into assistant manager and property manager positions. Strong performers who build retention metrics and demonstrate ownership of their leasing pipeline tend to move up faster than those who treat it purely as a front-desk function. Alexandria's rental market stays competitive enough that a consultant who learns to read traffic patterns, track concessions, and understand what drives renewals will carry those skills into any mid-Atlantic property management role.
