Leasing is a sales job with a customer service wrapper, and it helps to know that going in. At Nantucket Cove in Champaign, BAM Companies is hiring a Leasing Consultant who will be the first person prospective residents talk to, tour with, and ultimately trust enough to sign a lease. That's a real responsibility, and it's also a real opportunity if you're the kind of person who genuinely enjoys helping people make decisions.

The day-to-day is a mix of traffic management, follow-up, and relationship-building. You'll greet walk-ins, take prospects on tours, explain pricing and unit features, and then do the less glamorous but equally important work: returning calls promptly, following up on leads that went quiet, keeping the leasing office and show units presentation-ready, and entering data accurately into the CRM. Some days the office is busy and you're juggling three conversations at once. Other days you're doing outreach, helping with community events, or catching up on paperwork. The rhythm shifts week to week.

Weekend availability is required. That's worth saying plainly because it matters. Prospects shop for apartments on Saturdays. If that schedule doesn't work for you, this role probably isn't the right fit. If it does, you'll find that the commission structure adds up meaningfully over time. Every signed lease puts additional money in your pocket on top of the hourly base, which falls between $16.50 and $18.50 depending on experience.

What separates a strong leasing consultant from an average one usually isn't charm. It's follow-through. Plenty of people can give a good tour. Fewer consistently follow up with every lead, track where prospects are in the decision process, and close without being pushy. If you've done that kind of work in retail, hospitality, or any sales-adjacent role, the leasing side of it will come naturally.
