Leasing Consultant

Student housing runs on a leasing calendar that leaves almost no margin for error. Pre-leasing for the next academic year starts while current residents are still mid-lease, and by the time summer turn arrives, the property needs to flip hundreds of units in a matter of weeks. Every interaction between now and then either builds occupancy or chips away at it. That's the operational reality this role sits inside.

The Scion Group is hiring a Leasing Consultant (internally called an Experience Team Member) for Alight West Lafayette, a student housing community near Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. The position spans leasing, marketing, customer experience, and day-to-day property administration. It's a genuinely cross-functional role at the front lines of the asset's performance.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

Your primary job is converting traffic into signed leases. That means community tours, follow-up communication, and staying sharp on objection handling. You'll feed feedback on sales barriers back to the management team, which matters because pricing and concession decisions get made partly on what leasing staff hear directly from prospects. You'll also assist with social media content and local marketing outreach, helping the property stay visible in a competitive college market where students are comparing multiple options online before they ever walk through the door.

On the administrative side, the role covers package management, office and amenity upkeep, maintenance request coordination, and after-hours lockout duty on a rotating on-call basis. Turn periods are a specific availability requirement. If you haven't worked a student housing turn before, expect a compressed, high-volume push where make-readies need to happen fast and coordination between leasing, maintenance, and vendors is constant.

What Scion Is Looking For

  • A customer-first approach with genuine comfort talking to a wide range of people
  • Flexibility to work daytime business hours, weekends, and participate in an after-hours on-call rotation
  • Availability during summer and turn periods, which are the highest-stakes weeks of the student housing calendar
  • Self-discipline and reliability without needing constant direction
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort with social media platforms

The strongest candidates in this type of role tend to be people who treat every prospect interaction like it affects occupancy, because it does. In student housing, word of mouth travels fast across campus. One bad tour experience gets shared; so does a great one. The leasing staff sets the tone for how the community is perceived before a student ever signs a lease.

Scion offers health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401k with matching, paid time off, paid parental and maternal leave, a discretionary annual bonus, and learning reimbursement. This is a full-time, non-exempt position based on-site at Alight West Lafayette.
