What You'll Actually Do

This role sits at two properties in Portland: Essex House and The Merrick. You'll be the first real conversation most prospective residents have with either community, which means your ability to read people quickly and match them to the right apartment matters more than any script. Prometheus calls this position a Neighbor Ambassador, and while that might sound like rebranding, the intent is genuine. You're not just running people through a tour checklist.

On a typical day, you're fielding inquiries, scheduling and conducting tours, following up with prospects, and helping move applications through to signed leases. You're also handling the administrative side: market surveys, rental agreement prep, posting availability, and keeping occupancy data current. Neither side of the job is optional. The leasing numbers matter, and so does the paperwork that supports them.

Weekends are non-negotiable here. Traffic peaks on Saturdays and Sundays, and that's when the properties need coverage most. Your days off will fall during the week. If your personal schedule requires every weekend free, this role isn't the right fit right now.

One honest note about leasing roles in general: you'll encounter prospects who don't qualify, residents who are frustrated about things outside your control, and weeks where traffic is slow and you're still expected to hit your numbers. None of that is unique to Prometheus, but it's worth naming so you're not caught off guard.

What You Bring

  • A background in customer-facing work, whether that's retail, hospitality, sales, or something else entirely. Prometheus hires across industries.
  • Comfort with both the relationship side and the follow-through side. Plenty of people are great with prospects face-to-face but drop the ball on callbacks and paperwork. Strong candidates do both.
  • Self-direction. You'll have support, but you won't be micromanaged through every task.
  • Clear, consistent communication. Written and verbal.
  • Availability to work weekends as part of your regular schedule.

Compensation and Benefits

Base pay runs $21.00 to $23.00 per hour, with a $200 incentive per lease signed. There's also a discretionary semi-annual bonus, weekend shift premium pay, and additional bonus opportunities tied to referrals, lease-ups, and occupancy contests. The benefits package is notably strong for this level of role: Prometheus covers 100% of medical, vision, and dental premiums, including eligible dependents, and offers 401(k) with employer matching, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteer time, and tenure-based housing discounts. Your birthday is a paid holiday.

For someone early in a property management career, this role builds real foundational skills. Leasing consultants who develop strong closing habits and learn the operational side of a property, things like reading a market survey or understanding how concessions affect NOI, are well-positioned to move into assistant manager or community manager roles down the road. Prometheus is a vertically integrated company with properties across Portland, Seattle, and the Bay Area, so internal mobility is a realistic path, not just a talking point.
