Leasing in a Company That Treats Residents Like Neighbors

Most apartment communities staff a leasing office. Prometheus Real Estate Group builds what they call Neighborhoods, and the distinction shapes how this role actually works day to day. If you've done customer-facing work and found yourself caring more about the experience than just closing a transaction, that instinct maps well here.

This position covers two communities, Alderwood and Timberleaf, both in Santa Clara. You'll be the consistent presence prospective residents meet first and the person current residents count on when something feels off. That dual responsibility, converting traffic into signed leases while also sustaining the sense of community for people already living there, keeps the role varied and genuinely demanding in a good way.

What the Day-to-Day Actually Involves

The role spans three areas that feed each other. On the leasing side, you're guiding prospects through tours and applications, handling objections honestly, and moving people toward decisions without pressure tactics. On the service side, you're checking in with residents, responding to concerns, and being a visible, reliable point of contact. On the administrative side, you're handling rental agreements, posting availability, running market surveys, and contributing to community reporting. None of these areas sits in isolation. A good conversation with a current resident on a Tuesday can drive a referral that fills a unit by Friday.

Weekend availability is required. That's where traffic peaks, and this team needs coverage when prospective residents are actually out looking. Your off days fall during the week. If weekends are a hard constraint for you, this isn't the right fit. If you're flexible, the schedule works smoothly for most people in leasing.

Compensation sits between $25.00 and $26.25 per hour, with a $200 per-lease incentive, a semi-annual discretionary bonus, and weekend premium pay. There are additional bonuses tied to referrals, training coaching, lease-up activity, and leasing contests. On the benefits side, Prometheus covers medical, dental, and vision at 100% for employees and eligible dependents, and offers a 401(k) with employer matching, paid volunteer time, educational assistance, and tenure-based housing discounts.

What tends to separate strong candidates here isn't a specific industry background. Prometheus pulls from hospitality, retail, and customer service just as often as from other leasing roles. What matters more is whether you're a self-starter who communicates well under pressure, takes initiative without waiting to be asked, and genuinely enjoys the human side of the work. Leasing metrics matter, but the residents who renew year after year usually do so because someone on the team made them feel seen, not because the tour was flawless.

For someone early in a property management career, this kind of full-cycle leasing role builds the foundation for assistant manager and eventually community manager positions. You'll come away with a real understanding of occupancy management, lease administration, and resident relations, which transfers directly if you move into larger or more complex assets down the road.
