Skills That Drive This Role

Leasing is a sales job with a customer service wrapper. At Franklin River Apartments in Southfield, that means two core skills carry most of the weight: reading people quickly and communicating clearly across every channel. You'll field phone calls, respond to written inquiries, and conduct in-person tours, sometimes all in the same hour. The ability to shift tone and approach without losing consistency is what keeps traffic converting to signed leases.

Attention to detail matters here beyond the obvious. Application processing, move-in paperwork, and renewal documents all pass through you before going to the manager for approval. Errors at that stage cost time and trust. Candidates who treat administrative accuracy as part of the sales job tend to outperform those who treat it as a separate chore.

What You'll Spend Your Time On

  • Touring prospective residents and following up with a mix of phone and written outreach
  • Processing applications, move-in packages, and renewal paperwork for manager review
  • Inspecting vacant units, models, and common areas to confirm they're show-ready
  • Following up on move-ins and maintenance requests to confirm resident satisfaction
  • Supporting site marketing efforts, including outreach to local businesses and employers
  • Helping plan and attend resident events

Yardi experience gives you a head start. Familiarity with Fair Housing regulations is a plus, and Paragon will train the right person either way. The schedule is guaranteed full-time at 40 hours per week, which gives this role more stability than hourly positions common in leasing.

Working at Paragon

Paragon Properties manages communities across Michigan and has built a reputation as a fee management operator that takes internal advancement seriously. This role comes with a formal training program and a clear path upward, from consultant to assistant manager to property manager, for people who perform. The leasing move-in bonus adds a direct financial incentive tied to the work you're actually doing.

One honest note: resident-facing roles require consistency even on slower days. Strong candidates treat every prospect like a high-priority lead regardless of the traffic volume that week. That mindset, more than raw charisma, is what separates a good leasing consultant from one who hits company benchmarks month after month.

Starting pay is $18.50 per hour, negotiable based on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision with a short waiting period, employer-contributed 401(k), paid holidays, and a rent discount.
