Leasing Consultant

A prospective resident stops by Saturday afternoon with her parents in tow, a stack of questions, and a move-in date that's six weeks out. You're the first real impression Cottages of Clemson makes on all three of them. How that conversation goes matters more than almost anything else happening that day.

What This Role Actually Covers

The Experience Team Member title is a deliberate one. Scion builds its student communities around the idea that leasing and customer experience aren't separate functions, and this role reflects that. You're doing tours and closing leads, yes. But you're also helping plan and execute resident engagement events, managing the social media presence for the community, fielding package pickups, and occasionally handling after-hours lockout calls when you're on rotation. The job is genuinely varied, and some days will pull you in four directions at once.

On the administrative side, you'll track maintenance requests and follow up to make sure they move forward, keep the office and common areas presentable, and stay current on community policies, floor plans, and local market knowledge so you can answer questions with confidence rather than guessing. You'll also pass feedback up to management when you're hearing the same objections or concerns from multiple prospects. That kind of ground-level insight is useful, and Scion actually wants it.

Student housing has its own rhythm. The leasing cycle is compressed, turn season is intense, and your resident population turns over in large waves. If you've worked in conventional multifamily, the pace here is different. If you're coming in fresh, expect the summer and turn periods to be genuinely demanding stretches that require full availability.

What Scion Is Looking For

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a wide range of people, including residents, parents, and university contacts
  • Comfort with an unpredictable daily schedule and a willingness to shift priorities quickly
  • Reliability. This is a team environment, and your coworkers depend on you showing up and following through
  • Availability during summers, holidays, and turn periods, which are non-negotiable busy seasons in student housing
  • Eligibility to work in the United States (visa sponsorship is not available)

What separates strong candidates here isn't a leasing background, it's genuine people instincts combined with the discipline to handle the administrative side without letting it slip. Plenty of personable candidates struggle with the follow-through. The ones who do well in student leasing tend to be organized enough to track details while staying warm and present in every conversation.

This role is based on-site at Cottages of Clemson in Central, South Carolina, with standard business hours plus an after-hours on-call rotation shared among the team.
