Leasing Consultant

Weinstein Properties has been family-owned and operated for over 70 years, and that longevity isn't accidental. The company owns and manages more than 60 apartment communities across Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, and Georgia, and their Richmond-area portfolio spans communities in Goochland, Henrico, the West End, and Downtown. This Leasing Consultant opening sits within that Abbington West End region, with some flexibility on exact placement depending on fit and availability.

The pay range is $18 to $20 per hour based on experience, plus quarterly bonuses and a $1,500 sign-on bonus (details discussed during the interview). The schedule runs Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm, with rotating Saturdays from 9am to 5pm. There's also an alternative schedule available for candidates who can commit to a fixed five-day week that includes Saturdays, which comes with an additional per-pay-period bonus. If your availability is consistent and you don't mind working Saturdays regularly, that option is worth asking about.

Weinstein is direct about something most apartment companies talk around: prior leasing experience is not required here. What they're actually hiring for is someone who communicates clearly, handles interruptions without losing composure, and genuinely enjoys helping people find a home. The training program is hands-on and structured, not a pile of PDFs and a wish of good luck. That said, expectations are real. This is not a role where you sit at a desk and wait for phone calls. You'll walk units, inspect make-ready homes, work through a punch list with your team, manage administrative tasks in your property management software, and handle resident concerns that don't always arrive at convenient moments.

The honest reality of leasing is that some days you'll show five apartments and convert none, and other days a prospect will sign a lease on the first tour. The rhythm shifts. Resident events, weather-related situations, and last-minute coverage requests are part of the job. The people who thrive here tend to be the ones who don't need every day to be predictable.

From a career standpoint, leasing consultant roles at owner-operated companies like Weinstein often serve as the clearest path into assistant management and eventually property management. You build a real understanding of how a community runs, how to read traffic patterns, and how to talk to residents in ways that reduce delinquency and improve renewals. Those skills carry weight whether you stay on-site or move toward a regional role.
