Leasing Consultant

What You'll Actually Do

Leasing consultants at CommonPlace carry the full customer journey, from the first inquiry to move-in day and beyond. You're greeting prospects, leading tours, and making sure model units and common areas are sharp enough to close. When someone's ready to apply, you walk them through screenings, deposits, and lease paperwork. When an existing resident's lease is coming up, you're preparing renewal documents and sitting down with them to work through the conversation. You're also keeping an eye on the local Charlotte market, tracking competitor communities, and using digital channels like social media and listing platforms to drive traffic to your property.

The role has a genuine service dimension too. You'll coordinate with maintenance on make-ready status before move-ins, handle resident concerns with professionalism, and help plan community events that give residents a reason to stay. Fair Housing compliance runs through every interaction, so comfort with those standards is assumed from day one.

What You Bring

  • Prior leasing experience is preferred, though a strong sales or customer service background transfers well
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, you'll be responding to leads quickly and following up consistently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with OneSite or AppFolio is a plus
  • Monday through Friday availability, with some weekend flexibility as needed
  • A polished, professional presence and the ability to adapt across different prospect personalities and situations

Where This Role Leads

A leasing consultant position is one of the best on-ramps in property management because the skills compound quickly. You're building fluency in the full leasing cycle, learning to read traffic patterns, understanding what drives occupancy, and getting early exposure to renewal strategy. Consultants who pay attention to delinquency trends, occupancy targets, and how their property sits relative to competitors often move into leasing manager or assistant manager roles within a few years. The ones who distinguish themselves aren't just personable; they treat every lead as a data point, track their own conversion rate, and bring genuine follow-through to renewal conversations rather than treating them as an afterthought.

CommonPlace is hiring for this role in Charlotte, and compensation comes in at $22 to $25 per hour with commission on top, plus a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k, and paid time off including volunteer time.
