Leasing Consultant

What You'll Actually Do at Brookefield

This role puts you at the front door, literally and figuratively. You're the first person a prospective resident meets, the voice that answers the phone, and the team member who follows up after a tour to keep a lead warm. Day to day, you're conducting personalized apartment tours, responding to inquiries across phone, email, and web platforms, processing lease applications and move-in paperwork, and helping push the community toward its occupancy and renewal goals.

It's not just transactional work. Hawthorne calls this role a Leasing and Live It Specialist, which signals something real about how they operate. You're expected to build genuine connections with residents, coordinate community events, and help maintain the kind of environment that makes people want to renew. That means you'll be checking in on common areas, supporting social media and local outreach efforts, and keeping tabs on what competitor properties in the Raleigh market are doing.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 to 6, with Saturdays from 10 to 4. You'll get one weekday off to keep the week at 40 hours. Resident events and community needs can occasionally pull you outside those hours, so flexibility matters here.

What You Bring

  • A high school diploma or GED. That's the floor.
  • At least one year in customer service, sales, or apartment leasing is preferred, though not required if you can demonstrate the right instincts
  • A valid driver's license
  • Confidence communicating in person, by phone, and in writing
  • A natural ability to listen to what a prospect actually needs and match them to the right home, not just the next available unit
  • A CALP (Certified Apartment Leasing Professional) credential is a bonus, not a barrier to entry

Strong candidates in leasing roles tend to share one trait that's hard to teach: they're comfortable with the follow-up. Sending the second email, making the check-in call, staying engaged with a lead who went quiet. That persistence, when paired with genuine warmth, is what separates good leasing consultants from great ones.

Where This Role Fits

Hawthorne is a top-50 multifamily operator with deep roots in the Southeast, and Brookefield at 2400 Cluette Drive sits in a well-established Raleigh submarket with real competition for residents. Your market awareness matters here, not just your personality.

On the career side, Hawthorne runs a formal Career Path Program with the specific goal of moving Leasing Consultants into Assistant Community Manager roles. If you want to grow into operations, financial reporting, and team oversight, the path exists and the company invests in it. The leasing skills you build here, objection handling, resident communication, traffic conversion, transfer cleanly into every other role in property management.

Compensation includes an hourly base plus monthly leasing and renewal commissions, along with incentive programs tied to performance. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401k match, paid parental and adoption leave, pet insurance, and paid time off that includes your birthday.
