Floating Maintenance Technician - Commercial Buildings

Maintenance Technician

What This Role Covers

Cirrus Asset Management manages commercial properties across Redondo Beach and LA County, and this floating technician position keeps those buildings running. Floating means exactly that: you move between retail, mall, and industrial sites based on where work orders are queued, which keeps the day varied but also demands someone who can walk into an unfamiliar mechanical room and quickly assess what's in front of them.

The schedule runs Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM, with occasional early 7 AM starts and on-call availability for emergencies. The hourly range is $23 to $25, depending on experience.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Work orders drive the day. You'll handle electrical maintenance (bulb and socket replacements, circuit breaker panel cleaning and repair), plumbing and heating components, and door hardware including locks, closers, and controllers. Grounds and curb appeal are part of the scope too, held to both company and client standards.

Documentation carries real weight in this role. You'll maintain records for fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems, and building alarm contacts. That paper trail matters for compliance and for client-facing reporting, so accuracy isn't optional. You'll also document work performance and materials procurement as directed.

  • Complete work orders within designated time frames across multiple properties
  • Inspect and repair mechanical systems to meet health and safety standards
  • Maintain and repair plumbing, heating, locks, doors, and entry systems
  • Track and document fire safety systems and building alarm contacts
  • Maintain grounds and exterior appearance at each site
  • Participate in ongoing technical, safety, and operational training

What Cirrus Is Looking For

At least one year of hands-on experience in retail, mall, or industrial maintenance is required. Commercial buildings have different demands than residential: tenant hours, code compliance expectations, and the pace of work orders across a portfolio all add complexity that general maintenance experience alone won't prepare you for. Relevant certifications in electrical or systems maintenance (CMRP, for example) will strengthen your application. A high school diploma is required.

You need reliable transportation. Properties span Redondo Beach and LA County, and the ability to move between sites on short notice is core to how this role functions.

Strong candidates here tend to be self-starters who don't need a supervisor on site to prioritize correctly. With a floating structure, you're often the senior decision-maker in the moment: triaging which work order is time-sensitive, spotting something on a walkthrough that wasn't on the original punch list, and communicating clearly back to the team. Attention to detail and problem-solving instincts matter more than any single technical specialty.

Cirrus offers health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, paid holidays, sick time, vacation, and a 401(k) plan, along with healthcare spending or reimbursement accounts.
