Community Manager

Student housing runs on a different clock than conventional multifamily. Leases turn hard in the summer, move-in weekend is organized chaos, and residents are 19 years old with parents calling on their behalf. The Experience Team Member role at Alight Fullerton sits right at that intersection of leasing, resident relations, and property administration. It's a generalist position in the best sense: no two days look the same.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

A typical day might start with touring a prospective resident and their parent through the community, shift into logging packages and following up on a handful of open maintenance requests, and end with assisting on a resident engagement event. You'll support social media content, field questions about the property, and help management identify where the sales pitch is losing people and why. On-call rotation means after-hours lockouts are part of the job. That's not buried in the fine print here: it's listed plainly, and it's worth knowing before you apply.

Turn periods deserve a specific mention. In student housing, turn is a compressed, high-volume sprint where hundreds of residents move out and new ones move in within days of each other. Availability during that window isn't optional. If your summers have hard conflicts, this role isn't the right fit.

What Scion Is Looking For

  • Genuine comfort working with a diverse, college-age population and their families
  • Strong communication skills across in-person, phone, and social media channels
  • Reliability and self-direction without needing constant oversight
  • Availability during summer, holidays, and turn periods
  • Flexibility to handle a role where priorities shift quickly

What separates a strong ETM from an average one isn't the sales pitch or the event planning. It's follow-through. Residents notice when a maintenance request they submitted two weeks ago never got a response. They remember when no one called them back. The candidates who stand out treat the administrative side of this role with the same attention they give the customer-facing moments.

Where This Role Can Take You

The ETM role is a real entry point into property management. Scion operates student communities at scale across the country, which means internal mobility is a realistic path for people who perform. The skills you build here, specifically leasing, resident retention, and property administration, transfer directly to assistant manager or leasing consultant roles at both student and conventional multifamily communities. The California pay range for this position runs from $16.90 to $20.00 per hour, plus discretionary bonus and a full benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, 401k matching, and paid maternity leave.
