Assistant Property Manager

A prospective resident walks in on a Saturday afternoon, tired from touring three other buildings. Your leasing consultant is with someone else. You step in, learn what they're actually looking for, and by the time the GM gets the recap on Monday, that person has signed a lease.

That moment captures a lot of what this role asks of you. The Assistant General Manager at Bozzuto's Brooklyn property sits at the center of daily community life, covering for the GM when needed, keeping occupancy moving, and holding the team together when things get busy. It's a second-in-command position in the truest sense: you're expected to lead, not just assist.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

Day to day, you'll split your attention between the financial and the human. On the numbers side, that means rent collection, posting receipts, managing delinquency, and staying close to the community's financial objectives. On the people side, you're conducting tours, building genuine relationships with residents, and coaching team members when the GM isn't on site. You'll also keep a close eye on curb appeal and interior presentation, because in a market like Brooklyn, first impressions carry real weight.

Weekends are part of the job. Bozzuto asks for one to two weekend days per month, with corresponding weekday time off. That's when foot traffic peaks and prospective residents are actively deciding, so your presence during those windows matters directly to leasing outcomes.

Bozzuto also wants someone who can build resident retention through consistent, positive interactions and who takes ownership of resolving issues with real care rather than scripted responses. Social media content creation is part of the role too, specifically on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, so comfort in that space is expected.

What You Bring

  • A four-year degree or equivalent experience in property management
  • One to two years as an Assistant Property Manager
  • Experience with rent collection, accounts receivable, and basic budget exposure
  • 421-a program familiarity (preferred, given the NYC context)
  • Proficiency with Yardi or comparable property management software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An active real estate license, or the willingness to obtain one within 90 days of hire
  • Sales instincts and a genuine comfort connecting with people

The salary range for this position is $77,250 to $80,000, with additional bonus eligibility. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, 20 days of paid time off plus holidays, a 401k with company match, and tuition reimbursement.

One thing worth knowing if you're weighing this role for career growth: the AGM seat at a Bozzuto community is a well-established path toward General Manager. The company promotes from within frequently, and the exposure you get here, across leasing, collections, team leadership, and resident relations, builds the full operational picture that GM roles require. If you're one or two years into property management and want a clear line of sight to running your own community, this position is structured to get you there.
