Assistant Property Manager

Bozzuto operates some of the most recognized multifamily communities in the country, and the Assistant General Manager role at their Chicago location sits at the center of daily operations. This is a property management position with real financial accountability. You're not an observer here. You're collecting rent, managing delinquency, tracking occupancy, and running tours that close leases, all while covering leadership responsibilities whenever the GM steps away.

The financial side of the role is genuine. You'll contribute directly to meeting occupancy targets and revenue objectives by handling rent posting, monitoring accounts receivable, and keeping delinquency in check. On a given morning, you might be reviewing outstanding balances before walking a prospective resident through the community on a personalized tour. That afternoon could involve coaching a leasing consultant on follow-up technique. The range is real, and candidates who thrive here tend to be energized by it rather than stretched thin by it.

Resident retention is as important as new traffic in this role. Bozzuto places serious emphasis on the resident experience, and the AGM is expected to own that culture when the GM isn't present. That means handling resident issues with care, staying visible, and building the kind of community loyalty that shows up in renewal rates. Strong candidates for this role tend to have a natural instinct for connecting with people, whether that's a prospective resident on a Saturday tour or a team member who needs a quick coaching conversation before a busy open house.

Weekend availability is part of the job. One to two weekends per month, with weekday trade-off days. That's a standard expectation at high-performing lease-up and stabilized communities alike, and Bozzuto is upfront about it.

What Bozzuto is Looking For

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience in property management, hospitality, or retail
  • At least two years working in one of those industries
  • Hands-on exposure to rent collection, budgets, and accounts receivable
  • Comfort with Yardi or comparable property management software
  • Active presence on social platforms with the ability to create content that reflects the community's brand
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A real estate license, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire where required

The salary range for this position is $66,500 to $75,000, with additional bonus opportunities on top of base. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, 20 days of paid time off plus holidays, a 401k with company match, and tuition reimbursement.

For candidates thinking about trajectory: the AGM role at a company like Bozzuto is one of the cleaner paths to a General Manager or Property Manager seat. You're already running operations in the GM's absence, managing financials, and developing team members. The skills built here, specifically delinquency management, NOI awareness, and leasing conversion, translate directly into senior site leadership and eventually regional or portfolio-level roles.
