Maintenance Technician

You're mid-turn on a two-bedroom at Craigdell Gardens, patching drywall and lining up the paint match, when a call comes in about a leaking shut-off valve in another unit. That's a normal Tuesday in this role.

Birgo is hiring a Maintenance Technician for its apartment community on Craigdell Road in New Kensington, PA. The position covers the full scope of residential maintenance work: make-readies and turns, drywall, painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC repairs, along with scheduled preventative maintenance. You'll also rotate through on-call coverage for after-hours emergencies, with mileage reimbursed for travel throughout the workday. Beyond Craigdell Gardens, there's occasional opportunity to support other Birgo properties across the Western PA region.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

New Kensington sits in a market where Birgo operates workforce housing, and the residents here depend on things getting fixed right and fast. The pace of turns matters because vacant units directly affect occupancy, and occupancy affects everything else. Strong technicians in this kind of environment know how to move through a punch list without cutting corners. You're not just fixing things; you're directly affecting whether someone has a safe, functioning home.

On-call rotation is a real part of this job and worth acknowledging honestly. Emergency calls come after hours. If that kind of availability doesn't fit your current situation, this role will be difficult. If it does, the compensation and weekly pay structure reflect that trade-off.

What Birgo Needs From You

  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Valid driver's license and personal, insured transportation
  • Availability for on-call rotation
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds without assistance
  • Comfort working in confined spaces, on ladders, and on staircases
  • Safe, competent use of power tools
  • Hands-on experience across at least several of the core trades: plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, HVAC, or carpentry

Pay runs $24 to $27 per hour depending on experience, paid weekly. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance with employer contribution, a 401(k) match, paid time off and sick time, a boots and uniform program, professional development reimbursement, discounted rent at Birgo properties, and a profit-sharing program. Mileage is reimbursed for work-related travel.

Technicians who grow in this kind of role often develop the breadth to move into lead maintenance or property-level facilities management. Working across multiple sites in a regional portfolio also builds exposure to different property types and condition levels, which sharpens diagnostic instincts faster than single-site work typically does.
