What You'll Actually Do

This is a property accounting support role, and the work is exactly what it sounds like: high-volume, detail-dependent, and repetitive in the best sense. You're the person who keeps the paper moving. Every day involves receiving and scanning incoming mail for the property accounting department, routing items to the right people, printing and distributing outgoing checks by mail or expedited shipping, and depositing incoming checks on behalf of the portfolio. Returned items, including resident refunds, get processed through you as well. You'll also maintain a filing system for anything requiring follow-up or retention, which sounds simple until the volume picks up and the system is the only thing standing between order and chaos.

This position is 100% in office, based in either Atlanta or Houston. There's no hybrid component. The role sits inside the accounting department of one of the larger third-party management firms in the country, so the volume reflects that scale.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with genuine attention to detail. Accuracy here isn't a soft skill, it's the job.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
  • Comfort working independently and staying on task without close supervision
  • Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn internal property management software

A Word on the Role

AP support roles in third-party management tend to be underestimated. Asset Living manages properties across multifamily, affordable housing, build-to-rent, student, and active adult portfolios, which means the accounting department this role supports is processing transactions across a wide and varied book of business. A check that gets misrouted, a deposit that gets delayed, or a returned refund that sits unprocessed creates downstream problems for properties and residents. The person in this seat is not invisible to those outcomes.

For someone early in a property management career, this kind of back-office accounting exposure, understanding how cash moves through a third-party management structure, how checks are coded and routed, how refunds and returned items are handled, builds a foundation that transfers well into property accounting, accounts payable coordination, or even assistant controller roles down the road. It's not glamorous work, but it's foundational. People who do it well tend to get noticed.
