Program coordination and documentation matter too, but they're in service of that human connection.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

On a typical day, you might run an after-school session for kids ages 5 to 12 in the morning, coordinate a health workshop for families in the afternoon, and follow up with a resident who flagged a financial hardship. Door-to-door outreach is a regular part of the week, especially when new residents move in and need to know what's available to them. You'll also handle documentation for both MidPen's internal systems and external agency partners, so accuracy in Salesforce and Microsoft Office Suite is genuinely part of the job, not an afterthought.

Crisis intervention comes up. The role involves low-to-moderate situations requiring sound judgment, discretion, and knowledge of mandated reporting procedures. You won't be doing this alone, but you do need to be comfortable assessing a situation and knowing when to escalate. Strong problem-solving instincts and a calm, steady approach matter here.

Collaboration with the property management team is built into the role. You'll share what you're hearing from residents, flag emerging needs, and help shape the property's service plan. That bridge between resident services and operations is something MidPen takes seriously across its portfolio of more than 130 communities.

Open Doors is a family property, which means your caseload will include children and youth programming alongside adult services like ESL support, financial literacy, and rental assistance. The $24.62 to $27.70 hourly range reflects an entry-level coordinator tier, and for someone building a career in community development or social services, this role offers real exposure to program implementation, cross-sector partnerships, and the operational side of affordable housing. Many coordinators who grow within MidPen move into senior coordinator or program manager roles as they build portfolio experience.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM, with one or more evenings extending to 7 PM. That's worth knowing before you apply. Evening hours are when many working families are actually available, so it's a feature of the work, not an edge case.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED plus one year of relevant experience in community development, social services, youth programming, or related fields. Progress toward a two or four-year degree is preferred.
