Field-based property care roles in the short-term rental space sit at an interesting intersection: part inspector, part hospitality runner, part light maintenance coordinator. At Roofstock, this position sits inside a newly built STR business unit, which means the work carries real weight. Guest review scores, owner satisfaction, and the unit's ability to scale into new markets all trace back to what happens on the ground between stays.
You'll cover a defined zone of single-family homes in the Pacific City, Oregon market, moving between properties before and after guest stays. A typical shift involves pre-arrival inspections against brand standards, restocking consumables, resetting decor, handling punch list items like bulb swaps or TV resets, and documenting anything that needs escalation to the maintenance team. The role also pulls in some front-of-house work: responding to in-stay guest issues when dispatched, making outbound calls to guests or owners, and occasionally supporting the Hospitality Manager with task dispatching during off-peak hours.
The physical demands are real. You'll be on your feet most of the day, driving between properties, lifting up to 50 lbs, and staying available for urgent calls on weekends, holidays, and early mornings. The schedule is full-time with two days off per week, and the $22.50/hr rate is supplemented by a $135/month car allowance and $100/month for tools and equipment.
The skills you build here compound in ways that aren't obvious at first. Conducting inspections against brand standards, tracking supply patterns, flagging recurring property issues, and managing guest relationships in real time are all transferable to property management roles in long-term rentals, make-ready coordination, and operations leadership. Because Roofstock's STR unit is in active growth mode, there's also an internal path: coordinators who demonstrate reliability and market knowledge tend to move into team lead, hospitality manager, or multi-zone operations roles as the business expands. In a company that's explicitly building this business unit from the ground up, early contributors tend to have more visibility than they would in a mature portfolio.
One honest note: this role rewards people who thrive on variety and self-direction in the field, but it can be demanding when urgent in-stay issues stack up on a holiday weekend. If you do your best work when no two shifts look alike, that's a signal this might be a strong fit.
