Leasing Consultant

Leasing consultant roles at well-established apartment operators tend to look similar on paper. The day-to-day reality, though, is shaped by who you're working for and what they actually expect from you. At MG Properties, a Western U.S. operator with over three decades in acquisition, development, and management, the expectation is genuine: you're here to connect people with a home, not just close a transaction.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

Lakeridge Living in Reno is the community you'd be representing, and your job is to make the leasing experience feel personal rather than procedural. That starts the moment a prospect walks through the door. You'll greet and qualify applicants, walk them through available units, and guide them from application to signed lease. Getting that sequence right, and doing it in a way that leaves people feeling taken care of, is the core of the role.

Beyond traffic and tours, there's real administrative work involved. Rental files need to stay current and accurate. Lease data gets entered into the system. Move-ins require coordination with the maintenance team so new residents don't arrive to unfinished punch list items or unanswered questions. You'll also be the point of contact when current residents have complaints, maintenance concerns, or rent-related conversations. That last part is where etiquette and patience matter as much as sales skill.

Who Tends to Thrive Here

One year of property management experience is preferred, though the qualities MG Properties emphasizes go beyond tenure. Strong candidates in this role tend to be organized enough to manage files and deadlines without being reminded, personable enough to make a prospect feel heard in the first five minutes, and steady enough to handle a frustrated resident without letting it derail the rest of the afternoon. Those three things don't always come packaged together, and when they do, it shows quickly.

The Reno apartment market has stayed competitive, with demand driven by continued in-migration and a relatively tight rental supply compared to larger Western metros. That means occupancy goals are achievable, but leasing consultants who understand how to handle concessions conversations and follow up consistently on traffic will outperform those who wait for prospects to convert on their own.

Growth and Culture

MG Properties promotes from within, which means this role has a real career path attached to it. Leasing consultants who perform well and build operational knowledge often move into assistant manager positions, where they take on more of the financial and administrative side of a property. The skills you build here, qualifying applicants, managing documentation, coordinating with maintenance, and working through resident concerns, transfer directly into those next-level responsibilities.

The compensation package includes monthly bonuses, company profit sharing, a 401(k) with employer match, medical, dental, and vision coverage, and a rental discount. Paid time off includes ten days of PTO, ten paid holidays, two personal days, and forty hours of sick time annually.
