What the Job Involves

Fairstead is an affordable housing owner and operator with a portfolio of more than 30,000 apartments across 28 states. This Porter position is based at one of their Newark properties. The work is hands-on and exterior-focused: daily property walks, trash and debris removal, maintaining curb appeal, and keeping common areas clean and safe for residents.

You'll also assist with light maintenance and repairs to community features as needed. Resident interactions happen regularly, so basic customer service skills matter. The job requires weekend availability and on-call flexibility.

What You Bring

• An interest in custodial or maintenance work, with some mechanical aptitude
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and occasional on-call shifts
• Reliability and attention to detail on daily rounds

Pay runs $16 to $19 per hour depending on experience and location. Benefits include medical insurance through Meritain Health with a strong employer contribution, employer-paid vision and life insurance, a 401(k) with company match (100% on the first 3%, 50% on the next 2%), 15 days of PTO, 7 sick days, and 12 or more paid holidays.
