Maintenance Technician

It's 7:45 a.m. and you've already got three service requests queued, a unit turning Friday, and a resident at the office door with a leaky faucet. That's a normal Tuesday at a Prometheus property.

Prometheus Real Estate Group is hiring a Maintenance Technician I at Crystal Springs Terrace in San Bruno, California. This is a general maintenance role covering the full scope of day-to-day upkeep: service requests, apartment turns, and the ongoing repairs that keep a residential community running. The pay range sits at $27.75 to $28.75 per hour, with standby and on-call premium pay on top of that.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

Turns are a significant part of this role. You'll move through punch lists, handle make-ready prep, and coordinate repairs across appliances, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and paint. Beyond turns, you're fielding resident service requests and troubleshooting mechanical systems, both major and minor. Prometheus calls their residents "Neighbors," and that framing reflects something real about how they expect their maintenance team to operate: with care and responsiveness, not just technical competency. Residents notice the difference between a tech who fixes the problem and one who also treats the interaction like it matters.

On-call availability is required. If that's new to you, budget some mental energy for it. It's a real part of the job, not a footnote.

What Prometheus Is Looking For

  • At least two years of apartment maintenance experience
  • Working knowledge of appliances, plumbing, basic electrical, carpentry, and paint
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally; comfortable working outdoors in moderate temperatures
  • Clear written and verbal communication in English

The benefits package here is genuinely strong by industry standards. Prometheus covers 100% of medical, vision, and dental premiums, including eligible dependents, with buy-up options available. There's a 401(k) with employer matching, a behavioral health program accessible around the clock, paid volunteer time, and tenure-based housing discounts that become more meaningful the longer you stay. They also offer a semi-annual discretionary bonus and several bonus categories tied to specific performance milestones, including renovation and lease-up bonuses that can apply depending on property needs at a given time.

For technicians who want a clear path upward, this kind of role builds the foundation. Strong performers in Technician I positions typically move toward lead tech or maintenance supervisor roles as they accumulate experience across more complex systems and demonstrate reliability on call rotation. The San Bruno Bay Area market means properties generally run at high occupancy with demanding resident expectations. That pressure sharpens your skills faster than a slower-moving market would.
