Maintenance Technician

Paragon Properties is hiring a Maintenance Technician for Franklin River Apartments in Southfield, Michigan. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position paying up to $26 per hour based on your experience and certifications.

The work is what you'd expect from a busy apartment community. You'll turn units between residents, handling drywall patches, paint, and basic carpentry to get each apartment ready for occupancy. Day-to-day service requests will pull you in different directions: a leaking faucet here, a tripped breaker there, an appliance that won't cooperate. You'll also troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, and pool and spa equipment. Curb appeal and property condition fall under your watch too. If you spot something that looks like a liability or needs attention, you report it.

This role includes after-hours on-call rotation, including weekends and holidays. That's not a footnote. It's a real part of the job, and Paragon pays a bonus for it. If that kind of schedule doesn't fit your life right now, this probably isn't the right fit.

What Paragon is looking for

  • At least one year of hands-on maintenance experience, whether from a job, trade school, or vocational training
  • HVAC certification strongly preferred, Type II or Universal
  • Solid understanding of plumbing, electrical, and appliance repair
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • High school diploma required; trade school or college-level coursework preferred
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round, which in Michigan means you're comfortable in both July heat and January cold
  • Clean background check, drug screen, and physical required before start date

The compensation package includes paid time off, nine company-paid holidays, a rent discount, 401(k) with employer contribution, and medical, dental, and vision coverage with a short waiting period. Paragon also provides a tool kit after your first 30 days, a uniform program, and access to ongoing training and certification opportunities. Life and disability insurance are company-paid.

One thing worth knowing if you're weighing this role against others: HVAC certification is a real differentiator here. Technicians who can handle heating and cooling repairs independently without calling a sub give a property a significant operational advantage, and that skill translates directly to stronger pay and more responsibility as you grow in the industry. If you don't have it yet but you're close, it's worth mentioning in your application.
