Maintenance Technician

It's 7 a.m. on a Monday. A resident submitted a ticket over the weekend: no hot water. You're the first person they see, and how you handle the next 30 minutes sets the tone for their entire week.

Bozzuto is hiring a Maintenance Technician for their community in Burke, VA. This is a hands-on, full-cycle maintenance role covering everything from daily service requests to unit turns and grounds upkeep.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

Most of your day runs on service tickets. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliance repair. You diagnose the problem, fix it correctly, and close it out. Residents notice when you do it fast and when you do it right. Both matter here.

Unit turns are a regular part of the job. When a resident moves out, you go in, assess the punch list, and get the apartment ready for the next move-in. You're not just patching walls. You're resetting the unit to a standard that justifies the rent.

General upkeep rounds out the role: building cleanliness, grounds maintenance, and snow removal when the season calls for it. You'll also rotate on-call for after-hours emergencies. That part's non-negotiable, and it's worth understanding upfront before you apply.

What You Need to Bring

  • Hands-on experience in building maintenance or a trades education background
  • Beginner to intermediate skills across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and appliance repair
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 pounds frequently as part of daily work
  • Reliable personal transportation for commuting and on-call response
  • Basic computer skills for work order systems and communication
  • Strong communication, a professional appearance, and a genuine service mindset

You don't need to be a master of every trade on day one. Bozzuto is looking for someone with solid fundamentals and the willingness to keep learning. After your 12-month anniversary, they'll cover the cost of your EPA 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification. That's a real credential that transfers anywhere in this industry.

The salary for this role is $50,000, with bonus opportunities on top of that. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, 20 days of paid time off plus holidays, a 401k with company match, and tuition reimbursement.

One thing worth noting for anyone thinking about career trajectory: technicians who build strong diagnostic skills and a reliable on-call track record tend to move into Lead Tech or Service Manager roles faster than those who only handle routine tickets. If that path interests you, this is a reasonable starting point with a company that has the portfolio size to promote from within.
