Commercial facilities don't run on good intentions. They run on work orders closed, equipment inspected on schedule, and tenants who notice nothing because everything just works. That's the operational reality this role exists to support. Lincoln Property Company manages north of 680 million square feet of commercial space across the U.S. and internationally, and the Maintenance Technician position in Chantilly, VA sits at the ground level of keeping that portfolio performing.
This is a hands-on, boots-on-the-floor role working under the direction of a Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer. Day to day, you're handling the kind of tasks that keep a commercial building running: restroom repairs (toilets, soap dispensers, drain clearing), lamp replacements, air filter swaps, ceiling tile work, fire extinguisher checks, door hardware, minor furniture repairs, and basic painting in equipment rooms. You'll also run to suppliers using a company vehicle when parts are needed, so a clean driving record matters. Mechanical spaces need regular cleaning and inspection, and debris removal is part of the rotation too.
Tenant interaction is real in this role. You'll be communicating with building occupants, contractors, and engineers while work is in progress, so professionalism and clear communication aren't soft skills here, they're operational requirements. Safety compliance is non-negotiable: PPE use, OSHA standards, NEC, NFPA, and fire/life safety protocols are part of every shift.
Pay for this position runs $26 to $28 per hour. This is a fully on-site role in Chantilly with no remote option.
One thing that separates strong candidates in commercial maintenance from average ones: the ability to prioritize independently when three things need attention at once, communicate clearly with a tenant who's frustrated about a repair timeline, and still close out your work orders accurately by end of shift. Technical skills get you in the door. Judgment and communication are what get you trusted with more complex systems over time. For someone with solid fundamentals who wants exposure to large-scale commercial building operations, this role offers genuine breadth across multiple trade disciplines under experienced engineering leadership.
