What You'll Actually Do

This is a full-time, on-site maintenance role at a 202-unit apartment community in Pilsen. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm, with rotating on-call coverage for after-hours emergencies. Most of your day involves working through assigned work orders, keeping common areas clean and functional, and turning vacant units so they're ready for incoming residents.

Unit turns are a consistent part of the workload. That means punch list repairs, paint touch-ups, drywall patching, and general make-ready tasks that get a unit back to rentable condition. Beyond turns, you'll handle routine preventive maintenance on building systems, resolve minor plumbing and electrical issues, and do light carpentry and appliance repairs as needed.

Exterior upkeep is part of the job too. Trash pickup, snow removal, and seasonal amenity maintenance (including pool cleaning and basic equipment checks) all fall under this role. You'll work closely with the property manager to stay on top of priorities and make sure residents get responsive, courteous service when you're in their home.

What You Bring

  • Hands-on apartment or building maintenance experience
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and appliance repair
  • Comfortable with hand and power tools
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, kneel, and bend as needed
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Self-directed and reliable. You don't need someone checking in on every task
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

A Few Things Worth Knowing

Pilsen is a dense, active Chicago neighborhood. A 202-unit building in that area sees real daily wear, so the work order volume is steady. Technicians who do well in roles like this tend to be fast at diagnosing problems accurately on the first visit rather than returning multiple times. Residents notice the difference, and so does your manager.

The on-call rotation is real. If after-hours emergency response doesn't fit your life right now, that's worth weighing before you apply. For candidates who are fine with it, the Monday-through-Friday daytime schedule is otherwise predictable, which is a genuine advantage over some maintenance roles that run irregular hours throughout the week.

Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k), paid time off, and a referral program.
