Maintenance Supervisor

Apartment maintenance leadership is a balancing act. You're expected to keep your hands in the work while also keeping the team organized, the vendors accountable, and the residents satisfied. Weinstein Properties is hiring a Maintenance Assistant Supervisor at Abbington West End in Henrico, VA to do exactly that.

The Work

Weinstein is a family-owned operator with over 70 years in the business and a portfolio of 60-plus communities across five states. They own and manage everything in-house, which means decisions move faster and the team you're part of actually has authority over how things get done. This role sits between the service team and the Maintenance Supervisor, coordinating daily workflow while staying hands-on with repairs.

Day to day, you'll assign and manage work orders, schedule turns, coordinate vendor access, and make sure make-ready units move through the punch list efficiently. You'll also be in the field working alongside your team on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, appliances, drywall, carpentry, and pool maintenance. When things break, you diagnose them. When vendors come on site, you supervise them directly.

On-call rotation is shared with other team members. That's worth knowing upfront. The compensation reflects it: a $150 weekly on-call bonus whether calls come in or not, plus an extra $150 for holiday on-call coverage.

What Qualifies You

  • At least 4 years of hands-on trade experience across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building maintenance
  • At least 1 year in a lead, assistant supervisor, or supervisory role in apartment maintenance specifically
  • EPA/CFC certification (Type I and II or Universal) required before starting
  • Comfortable using software to manage work orders, track supplies, and communicate via email
  • Valid driver's license, personal transportation, and your own tools
  • Willing to share on-call responsibilities with the team

Starting pay is $26/hour depending on experience, with a $1,500 sign-on bonus (details discussed during the interview), quarterly performance bonuses up to $1,110, and a standard benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, 401k with company match, PTO, paid holidays, birthday time off, and a rent discount.

Strong candidates in this kind of role tend to be people who don't need a supervisor watching over them to stay organized. If you can hold your team accountable, communicate clearly with residents when something goes wrong, and still turn a wrench when the job calls for it, that's the profile Weinstein is looking for. The in-house ownership model also means this role has a clear path upward for someone who performs well and wants to grow into a full Maintenance Supervisor position over time.
