Leasing Consultant

Some leasing roles are mostly paperwork and portal updates. This one asks for something different: the ability to build real relationships with people who are navigating real financial constraints, and to do it with consistency, warmth, and professionalism every single day.

Skills at the Center of This Role

Avanath operates affordable housing communities that serve the workforce, and the Leasing Specialist position reflects that mission in every interaction. The skills this role draws on most heavily are active listening, community-building, and cross-functional communication. You'll work with prospects and residents, yes, but also with vendors, social service partners, regulatory contacts, and your own management and maintenance teams. The ability to hold all of those relationships well, while still moving traffic through the leasing process, is what makes someone genuinely effective here.

On the leasing side, you'll qualify prospects, conduct tours, explain features and benefits in ways that connect to what the person actually needs, and guide them through the application and deposit process in compliance with Fair Housing requirements. You'll track all visits and follow-ups, process applications in Yardi Voyager, prepare files, and make sure units are move-in ready on agreed dates. When a prospect doesn't lease, you follow up. When you can't serve them here, you refer them to a sister community. Nothing falls through the cracks.

Resident retention lives here too. That means fielding calls and in-person visits, coordinating with the maintenance team on service requests, following up until issues are actually resolved, and participating in community events. It's a full-cycle relationship, from the first phone inquiry through the renewal conversation.

Administrative Accuracy Matters as Much as Personality

Strong leasing consultants know that the relationship skills and the paperwork skills have to coexist. At Avanath, that means accurate, timely Yardi data entry, proper lease execution before move-in, compliance file maintenance under the guidance of the Compliance department, and keeping your own commission records current for bonus purposes. Affordable housing communities carry regulatory requirements that don't leave room for sloppy documentation, particularly around LIHTC compliance. Experience in that space is a real advantage here.

What This Role Looks Like at Avanath Specifically

Avanath's communities serve workforce residents, and that shapes the culture of the leasing office. Residents often have complex situations. They may need more explanation, more patience, or more connection to outside resources. The Leasing Specialist here is expected to go beyond transactional service and genuinely advocate for people finding stable housing. That's a meaningful distinction.

Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is highly desired, which reflects the communities Avanath serves in the Los Angeles market. If you have that fluency, it will matter here in a way it might not at a Class A luxury lease-up.

  • 2 or more years of sales or customer relations experience
  • LIHTC or affordable housing experience is a strong plus
  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred
  • Yardi Voyager familiarity preferred
  • Comfort with a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and standard office technology

For someone who wants a leasing role where the mission is genuine and the people you serve are genuinely counting on you, Avanath is worth a serious look.
