Leasing Consultant

Village Green has been operating residential communities since 1919, which means a leasing role here comes with real infrastructure behind it: training programs, established processes, and a track record of promoting from within. For someone early in a property management career, that context matters. Leasing is where most strong PM careers begin, and the skills you build here compound quickly into roles like Assistant Manager, Property Manager, or even regional oversight.

What the Day-to-Day Looks Like

This position is based in Plymouth, MI and centers on the full leasing cycle. You'll field inquiries, qualify prospective residents, conduct tours, and carry the relationship from first contact through lease signing and move-in. That last stretch, coordinating the move-in itself, tends to separate leasing consultants who are just closing deals from those who are building occupancy that holds. You'll also track traffic and follow-up activity, stay current on what competitors in the local submarket are offering, and participate in community marketing initiatives that drive inbound leads.

The role requires weekend availability and some evenings, which is standard for leasing. That's when most prospective residents are actually available to tour. Reliable transportation is required.

Pay runs from $17.83 to $19.27 per hour, plus commissions tied to leasing performance.

What You Bring

  • One to three years of sales experience, with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly
  • Comfort with property management software and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Solid time management, since you'll often juggle active prospects, current resident needs, and administrative follow-up simultaneously
  • Familiarity with local real estate market conditions and basic leasing regulations
  • Negotiation skills that can close without overselling

Where This Role Can Take You

The candidates who advance fastest from leasing into assistant manager or manager roles are the ones who treat the leasing office like a business unit. They track their own conversion rates, pay attention to delinquency patterns among residents they personally leased, and ask questions about NOI and concession strategy. Village Green's size gives you exposure to a range of property types and operational structures, which accelerates that learning considerably. The benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, a bonus program, and a 401(k) with employer match.
