Leasing Consultant

It's a Saturday morning at Evolve at Lake Norman. A couple walks in, still deciding. You've got maybe 45 minutes to show them something that feels like home. That's the core of this job.

Hawthorne Residential Partners is staffing up a lease-up community in Mooresville, NC, which means traffic is high and the pressure to convert is real. This isn't a stabilized asset where you coast on renewals. Evolve at Lake Norman needs to fill units, and your leasing activity directly drives that.

What the Job Covers

Day to day, you're handling incoming leads across phone, email, and web, then converting those conversations into tours and applications. You'll walk prospects through units, manage the paperwork side of the leasing process (applications, verifications, move-in docs), and follow up consistently with anyone who didn't sign on the spot. You'll also support renewal goals and help maintain the common areas and office so the property always looks ready to show.

Beyond leasing, you'll help plan and attend resident events. Hawthorne treats community engagement as part of the job, not an afterthought. You'll also track what competitors are doing and help with social media and local outreach to keep the property visible.

The schedule runs Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM, and Saturdays 10 AM to 4 PM, with one weekday off per week to keep the total at 40 hours. Occasional evening availability may come up for events.

What Hawthorne Wants to See

  • One year of customer service, sales, or apartment leasing experience (preferred, not required)
  • Strong communication skills across in-person, phone, and written channels
  • Comfort with objection handling and the ability to guide a prospect toward a decision
  • A valid driver's license
  • High school diploma or GED
  • CALP accreditation is a plus if you already have it

Compensation includes an hourly base plus monthly leasing and renewal commissions. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401k with match, paid time off (including your birthday), pet insurance, paid parental leave, and company-paid life insurance.

One thing worth knowing about lease-up roles specifically: they build skills faster than stabilized properties. You'll handle higher volume, sharper objections, and more objection types in your first six months here than you might see in two years at a fully occupied community. Consultants who perform well in lease-ups tend to move into assistant community manager positions quickly. Hawthorne has a formal career path program designed to support exactly that kind of progression.
