Skills This Role Lives On

This position runs on three things: people skills, sales instincts, and attention to detail. You'll spend your days converting prospects into residents, keeping current residents happy, and handling the administrative work that keeps a leasing office running. If you're strong in one area but not the others, this role will feel uneven. The best candidates bring all three.

Prometheus calls this role a Neighbor Ambassador rather than a Leasing Consultant, and the distinction matters. The expectation isn't just to close leases. It's to build genuine rapport with prospects from the first inquiry through move-in, and to stay present for residents long after the lease is signed.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

On the sales side, you'll guide prospects through tours, follow up on leads, and work to convert traffic into signed leases. Prometheus uses its own leasing framework, so you'll learn their process rather than improvise. Leasing contests and per-lease incentives are built into the comp structure, so your effort shows up directly in your paycheck.

On the administrative side, expect to handle rental agreements, market surveys, occupancy reporting, and apartment advertising. It's not glamorous, but it's where you build the operational foundation that makes every other part of this job work. Errors here cost time and sometimes money, so accuracy matters.

On the customer service side, you're the face of the property for people who live there. Complaints, requests, day-to-day friction: you handle it or route it. Residents notice when someone follows through, and they notice when someone doesn't.

One honest note on scheduling: weekends are required. The Portland communities are busiest Saturday and Sunday, so your regular days off fall on weekdays. If a Monday-to-Friday schedule is a firm need, this isn't the right fit.

What Makes This Role at Prometheus Different

Prometheus is a privately held company with over 13,000 units across the Bay Area, Portland, and Seattle. They've operated since 1965 and build for the long term, which means you're not working for a company that's flipping assets or cutting corners on reinvestment. The Portland portfolio sits within a larger vertically integrated operation that includes acquisitions, development, and value-add renovations. That's meaningful for someone early in a property management career: you're not siloed, and there are real paths to grow.

For entry-level candidates, this role is a solid starting point. Leasing Consultants who develop strong closing skills and operational habits often move into Assistant Manager or Property Manager roles within a few years. Prometheus's size means those opportunities exist internally rather than requiring a job change to find them.
