It's a Saturday morning in August, and move-in day at The Thompson is organized chaos. You're handing out keys, tracking down packages, fielding texts from parents, and somehow still smiling. That's the job, and it matters more than the title suggests.

The Role at The Thompson

The Scion Group operates student housing communities across the country, and The Thompson in San Marcos, Texas sits in a market shaped by Texas State University. This leasing consultant position, which Scion internally calls an Experience Team Member, covers more ground than a standard leasing role. You're part of the sales team, part of the marketing effort, and part of property operations all at once.

Day to day, that means touring prospective residents, handling objections, and feeding feedback on sales barriers back to the management team. It also means helping plan and run resident engagement events, supporting social media content, and keeping the office and amenity spaces in presentable shape. Package logging and maintenance request follow-up fall to this role too. The list of responsibilities is genuinely wide.

The after-hours piece is real. You'll rotate through on-call shifts, which includes lockout calls. That's a known part of working student housing, and it's worth saying plainly before you apply.

One thing worth knowing: this role is a genuine entry point into property management. Leasing consultants who learn turn operations, build a track record in sales, and get comfortable with the administrative side of a property tend to move into assistant manager positions relatively quickly in student housing. The experience translates well to conventional multifamily too, since the core skills, occupancy management, resident relations, and basic operations, carry across asset types.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position based on-site at The Thompson in San Marcos. Scion requires current U.S. work authorization and does not offer visa sponsorship.
