Leasing Consultant (Broadlands)
Van MetreLeasing at a residential community is a relationship job wrapped inside a sales job. The consultant who thrives here isn't just closing applications. They're the person residents call when something feels off, the one who remembers names, and the one whose follow-up actually gets returned. Van Metre's Broadlands Apartments in Ashburn, VA is hiring a Leasing Consultant to fill that role.
What the Job Looks Like Day to Day
You'll spend a meaningful chunk of each shift on traffic: greeting walk-ins, answering calls, scheduling tours, and following up with prospects by phone and email until an application comes in or the lead goes cold. Grassroots marketing falls in your lap too, so expect some outreach activity beyond the leasing office walls.
The rest of your time splits between current residents and property upkeep. That means checking in on service request status, keeping residents in the loop, handling renewals, and helping plan community events. You'll also run three exterior inspections per week and inspect vacant units before they're shown, logging anything that needs attention from the maintenance team. The make-ready process depends on consultants catching issues early, and Van Metre expects that discipline here.
Weekend availability is required. Bilingual candidates have an advantage given the Northern Virginia market.

Van Metre has operated in the DC metro area since 1955, and Broadlands sits in one of Loudoun County's more established planned communities. Ashburn has seen sustained demand from tech sector growth tied to data center expansion and the Silver Line extension, which gives leasing staff here a concrete story to tell prospective residents about the location.
Candidates with backgrounds in hospitality, retail sales, or customer-facing service tend to translate well into leasing. The skills that separate strong performers are straightforward: consistent follow-up, comfort on the phone, and the ability to build trust quickly with someone making a significant housing decision. If you treat every tour like it matters, that compounds over time into strong occupancy and retention numbers.
