Overnight and evening shifts at a luxury high-rise require a particular kind of person. Not just someone who's friendly, but someone who stays sharp at 3am, handles an anxious resident with the same composure they'd bring at noon, and keeps the front desk running like nothing unusual is happening. That's the skill set this role is built around.

What This Role Actually Demands

Comstock is hiring concierge staff for evening (4pm to midnight) and overnight (midnight to 8am) shifts at a luxury apartment community in Reston, VA. The core of the job is hospitality, but it runs through a lot of different channels at once. You're greeting residents and their guests, screening who enters the building, fielding phone calls, coordinating amenity and loading dock reservations, and doing regular building walks to spot maintenance needs or anything out of place. You're also the person residents call when something feels off, and how you handle that call matters.

The overnight shift specifically asks for a high degree of self-direction. There's less foot traffic, but the stakes of each interaction are often higher. A resident who comes down at 2am has a real need. Your ability to problem-solve independently, without a manager down the hall, is what makes the difference between a smooth night and a frustrated resident.

The Skills That Carry This Role

Strong written and verbal communication isn't just a checkbox here. You'll be logging incidents, responding to inquiries, and coordinating with building staff across shifts. Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel come into play regularly, whether you're tracking amenity reservations or sending a handoff note to the incoming team. Attention to detail matters more than most postings admit: a missed maintenance item on a building walk or an unauthorized visitor waved through can create real problems.

What separates good concierge candidates from great ones at a Class A property is the ability to read people quickly. Residents at this level expect to be recognized, remembered, and helped without a lot of back-and-forth. That instinct for anticipating needs, rather than just reacting to them, is the difference between adequate and genuinely excellent in this role.

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • At least one year of concierge or premium customer service experience preferred
  • Must be available weekends and holidays, with flexibility for additional shifts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision during overnight hours

Working at Comstock

Comstock manages an expanding portfolio, which means there's real room to grow if you're interested in moving into property operations over time. Concierge experience at a luxury property builds a foundation that transfers well into leasing, resident services coordination, or community management roles. You'll learn how a Class A building operates from the inside out, and that perspective is genuinely useful if you want to move up.

The benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, 401k with match, life insurance, a housing discount, commuter benefits, free parking with EV charging, and a parental leave program. Annual professional development funds are also available, which is worth noting for anyone who takes their career growth seriously. Note that specific benefit availability can vary depending on your role function.

If you're someone who does your best work when you own your environment, treats every interaction as a reflection of the building's reputation, and genuinely finds satisfaction in making things go right for people, this is a role worth pursuing.
