What's Actually Happening Here

Cortland is hosting an in-person career fair at their Rosslyn property, 1771 N Pierce St, Arlington, VA 22209, on Thursday, June 11th from 9:30am to 3:30pm. Hiring managers will be on-site, conducting real interviews and extending same-day offers for multiple roles. This isn't a resume drop. If you walk in prepared, you could walk out with an offer.

The open roles span the full operational stack of a multifamily community. Each one sits at a different point on the property management career ladder, and understanding where they lead matters as much as whether you qualify today.

The Roles on the Table

  • Community Manager: The operator's seat. You're running the full site, leading the team, managing NOI, handling delinquency, overseeing turns and maintenance coordination, and making sure residents want to renew. This role builds the skills that translate directly to regional and district-level oversight. Strong candidates come in with a track record on occupancy and a clear sense of how their decisions affect the T-12.
  • Community Relations Manager: This is the assistant manager position, supporting both leasing and operations. You're the connective tissue between the leasing consultant and the community manager. Done well, it's a serious development role. Most people who grow into community manager seats spend time here first, learning how a site actually runs from the inside.
  • Leasing and Sales Consultant: The front-line traffic and conversion role. You're closing prospects, managing the lead pipeline, and representing the community to people who haven't signed yet. For someone earlier in their career, this is where PM vocabulary, sales instincts, and resident relationship skills start compounding. It's also where you learn what drives concessions decisions and how occupancy pressure feels in real time.

What Separates Strong Candidates at a Career Fair Like This

Walking into a same-day interview format is different from a traditional hiring process. Hiring managers are evaluating presence, communication, and how well you understand the role you're applying for, not just whether your resume checks boxes. If you're targeting the Community Manager seat, come ready to talk about a specific occupancy challenge you've managed. If you're going for the leasing consultant role, be prepared to walk through how you'd handle a prospect who toured but went cold. Generic answers about being a "people person" won't move the needle here.

Cortland is a vertically integrated operator, one of the larger multifamily owners in the country, which means internal mobility is real. The Arlington and Northern Virginia market carries strong renter demand and competitive Class A inventory, so the experience you'd build at a Cortland community in this submarket is genuinely transferable across the broader portfolio and across the industry. Benefits include health, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and an employee discount.
