Community Relations Manager - Cortland Peterson
CortlandMultifamily communities at the Class A end of the market carry a specific kind of pressure: residents are paying a premium, and they notice when the experience doesn't match the price point. The Community Relations Manager role exists precisely to close that gap. It's the connective tissue between a leasing pipeline and a resident base that actually stays, renews, and refers.
Cortland's Peterson property in Colorado Springs is hiring for this position, and it sits at an interesting intersection. You're part sales professional, part operations partner, and part community builder. The leasing side demands real pipeline discipline: following up promptly, maintaining accurate CRM records, tracking conversion metrics, and closing with confidence. The resident experience side requires something harder to train, which is genuine attentiveness to what people actually need versus what they say they need. Both matter here, and you'll be accountable to both.
What This Role Actually Involves Day to Day
On any given day, you might be walking vacant units for make-ready compliance in the morning, hosting a resident event in the evening, and handling a leasing inquiry via CRM follow-up in between. You'll support the Community Manager in keeping daily operations on track, including vendor coordination, property inspections, curb appeal standards, and Fair Housing compliance. You'll also carry your own leasing goals and conversion targets, which means the pipeline management piece is real, not secondary.
The social media and marketing component is worth calling out specifically. Cortland expects this person to actively manage the community's brand presence, not just post occasionally. If you've built engagement for a luxury or lifestyle brand before, that experience translates directly.
Who Tends to Succeed Here
- At least 2 years of measurable sales results in a high-velocity, short-cycle environment: multifamily, hospitality, luxury retail, premium automotive, or similar
- Proven pipeline management habits, including consistent follow-up and organized lead tracking
- Comfort with property management software, CRM platforms, and Microsoft Office
- Strong written and verbal communication; you'll interact with prospective residents, current residents, vendors, and the broader onsite team regularly
- High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred
- Ability to handle resident concerns with empathy and resolve them with urgency
The candidates who tend to stand out aren't necessarily the ones with the longest property management resume. They're the ones who've worked in environments where customer experience was non-negotiable and who treat their follow-up process with the same discipline as their close. Consultative selling skills matter here more than a scripted pitch.
Pay for this role falls between $26 and $31 per hour. Cortland is a vertically integrated operator with in-house design, construction, and management, which means internal career paths are real and varied. Community Relations Managers who demonstrate operational competence alongside leasing results often move into Community Manager roles or broader portfolio responsibilities over time.
