Assistant Property Manager

It's a Tuesday morning and you're fielding a call about a late rent payment while a prospect waits at the leasing desk and your property manager is out for the day. That's not a worst-case scenario at this job. That's just Tuesday.

What This Role Actually Involves

Bozzuto is hiring an Assistant Property Manager for their community in Salem, OR. This is a real number-two role, meaning you're not just supporting the property manager, you're running things when they're not there. That responsibility shows up in the day-to-day in ways the job title doesn't fully capture.

A big part of your week will be split between two things that don't always feel related: financial performance and people. On the financial side, you'll own rent collection, manage delinquency, and stay close to budget and P&L activity. On the people side, you'll conduct tours, work to convert traffic into signed leases, and make sure every resident interaction reflects well on the community. You'll also coach and mentor the team around you, which means your influence extends beyond your own tasks.

The role includes one to two weekends per month, with two weekdays off in exchange. Prospects shop on weekends. That's the reality, and this schedule is built around it.

Keeping the property's interior and exterior in solid shape is part of the job too. You're not doing maintenance work, but you're accountable for the community's presentation and for making sure the team carries the brand well.

What Bozzuto Is Looking For

  • A four-year degree or equivalent work experience in property management, hospitality, or retail
  • At least two years in one of those industries
  • Familiarity with revenue, P&L, and budget management
  • Comfort with Yardi or similar property management software
  • Active use of social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, with the ability to create content that actually engages people
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A genuine sales instinct, not just the willingness to sell

The salary range for this position is $52,000 to $54,080, with additional bonus opportunities. Bozzuto also offers medical, dental, and vision coverage, 20 days of paid time off plus holidays, a 401k with company match, and tuition reimbursement.

What separates strong candidates in this role from average ones is usually composure under competing demands. Leasing skills matter. Financial literacy matters. But the APMs who grow into property manager roles tend to be the ones who can hold the operation together on a complicated day without waiting to be told what to do. If you've got that instinct, this is a solid place to develop it further.
