Multifamily maintenance teams run lean, and when a property has real volume, a single Maintenance Supervisor can't cover everything alone. BAM Companies, a Des Moines-area operator founded in 2010, is hiring an Assistant Maintenance Supervisor to carry real weight on the maintenance side at one of their West Des Moines communities.
This role splits time between hands-on repairs and light supervisory support. Day to day, you're turning units, working through work orders, and handling the mechanical systems that keep a property running: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall. You'll also take part in preventive maintenance inspections and help document what gets done.
On the administrative side, you'll work directly with the Maintenance Supervisor on scheduling, parts ordering, and unit walks. That coordination piece matters. Knowing where the team is on make-readies, which units are punched, and what's still outstanding keeps the operation from falling behind.
After-hours coverage is part of the job. The team rotates on-call, and snow removal is an all-hands responsibility in winter. If that kind of shared accountability doesn't appeal to you, this role isn't the right fit.
Pay runs $22 to $25 per hour depending on experience.
Strong candidates at this level tend to be the ones who already troubleshoot independently before escalating. If you can walk a unit, spot what needs to happen, and execute without waiting to be told, you'll move faster in this role and likely move up faster too. The assistant supervisor seat is a common stepping stone to leading a maintenance team on your own property.
BAM offers PTO after 90 days, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, plus rent discounts at their properties for employees who want to live on-site.
