Assistant Maintenance Manager

Multifamily properties in Boston's urban core run complex mechanical systems, tight turn schedules, and demanding residents. Bozzuto's Cambridge community needs an Assistant Maintenance Manager who can handle all three without losing composure.

This is a working leadership role. You'll carry a wrench and a clipboard. You'll pull service tickets, troubleshoot HVAC and plumbing issues, and also coach the technicians around you. The make-ready process is a real priority here: apartment turns need to be tight and on schedule so units can lease and new residents can move in without delays. Preventative maintenance gets the same attention as reactive work.

Day-to-Day Scope

Most of your week splits between resident service requests and building systems. You're diagnosing and resolving issues across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and appliance repair. You're walking the property for general upkeep, grounds maintenance, and safety compliance. In winter, that includes snow removal. You'll also manage punch list completion on turns, support preventative maintenance scheduling, and keep the operation running inside applicable building and safety codes.

Weekend availability is required, and you'll participate in the emergency on-call rotation. That's a real commitment. Properties like this don't go quiet after business hours.

What the Role Requires

• 5 or more years in the trades, facilities, or residential building maintenance
• Hands-on proficiency with HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and appliance repair
• HVAC, EPA, or NAPE certification
• Familiarity with complex mechanical systems: central plant, boilers, chillers, split systems
• Basic carpentry, drywall, and painting skills
• Knowledge of OSHA standards, risk management practices, and MSDS
• Supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership in a team setting
• Comfort with technology platforms and basic Microsoft Office proficiency
• Physical ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds frequently and work in varying weather conditions

Strong candidates for this role tend to think like building owners. They notice the things residents haven't reported yet, track patterns in recurring failures, and don't let punch lists linger. If you've managed turns at a Class A mid-rise or high-rise and kept delinquency in your maintenance queue close to zero, that experience translates directly here.

The salary range is $62,000 to $72,000, with additional bonus eligibility. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, 20 days of paid time off plus holidays, a 401k with company match, and tuition reimbursement.
