Assistant Community Manager (Shorebreeze I, Shorebreeze II, San Veron Park)
MidPen HousingIt's Monday morning and you're verifying income documents for a new lease while fielding a call about a work order that didn't get closed out. That's the pace. This role keeps three affordable communities running from the inside out.
MidPen Housing has been developing and managing affordable housing across Northern California since 1970. Their portfolio covers more than 142 properties housing working families, seniors, and residents with special needs. The Assistant Community Manager position supports daily operations across Shorebreeze I, Shorebreeze II, and San Veron Park in Mountain View, reporting directly to the Community Manager.
What the Work Involves
Compliance is a significant part of this role. MidPen operates tax credit and HUD-assisted communities, which means recertifications, TCAC reviews, and Management and Occupancy Reviews (MOR) are recurring responsibilities. You'll schedule income verification appointments, prepare and process lease agreements, and maintain the housing wait list. You'll also help process rent collections, security deposits, and bank deposits, and track petty cash.
On the facilities side, you'll coordinate maintenance inspections with facilities staff, track work orders, and conduct property walk-throughs to flag maintenance and security concerns. Turns get scheduled and monitored through turnover forms that you'll help prepare. You'll also issue notices, maintain resident and property files, and communicate emergency preparedness procedures to residents.
The role works closely with the Resident Services team and local partners, including law enforcement and emergency agencies. Resident relations is a genuine part of the job, including helping coordinate resident meetings.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, plus at least one year of experience in residential property management, customer service, or an administrative role
- Proficiency in MS Office; RealPage experience is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Organized and detail-oriented, especially with file maintenance and compliance documentation
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Alignment with MidPen's mission in affordable housing
Pay ranges from $21.15 to $23.80 per hour based on experience. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, a 403(b) retirement plan, paid parental leave, FSA options, an employee education reimbursement program, EAP, pet insurance, and paid time off.
One thing worth knowing: the compliance load here is heavier than at a conventional market-rate property. Tax credit recertifications and HUD reviews require precision and consistency. Candidates who've worked in affordable housing before, or who have strong administrative experience with regulated documentation, will move faster up the learning curve than those coming strictly from conventional leasing backgrounds.
