Maintenance Technician

Hillpointe builds and owns workforce housing across the Sun Belt, and unlike most property management companies, they control everything in-house: land, construction, procurement, and asset management. This field technician role sits inside that asset management function, supporting newly opening and operating properties across multiple states.

What the Work Looks Like

This is a traveling maintenance role, not a site-based one. You'll move between Hillpointe properties in Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, and Colorado, spending roughly 75% of your time on the road with overnight travel expected. Each stop has a checklist: open work orders pulled from Smartsheets, HVAC filter checks and replacements, electronic deadbolt verification, key documentation, unit status reporting, and photo uploads to OneDrive. You're the boots on the ground when a property needs eyes and hands before or after a lease-up.

Communication matters as much as the physical work. You report directly to the Asset Management Lead and flag anything beyond your scope, whether that's a warranty item or a repair that needs a subcontractor. You keep the work vehicle stocked, the documentation accurate, and the timelines moving. The job requires lifting up to 150 lbs and working in whatever conditions the property presents.

What Hillpointe Is Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Prior maintenance experience is a plus, not a hard requirement
  • Ability to travel up to 75%, including overnight stays
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office basics (Word, Excel)
  • Strong attention to detail, especially with documentation and photo reporting
  • Able to work independently and manage your own schedule across sites
  • Physically capable of standing, bending, and lifting throughout the workday

Why This Role Is Worth Considering

Candidates who do well here tend to have a self-starter mindset. You're often working without a supervisor physically present, so the ability to follow protocols, document correctly, and communicate proactively carries more weight than raw technical skill. Experience with work order platforms or property management software is a real advantage, even if it's not listed as required.

The exposure across multiple properties and markets also builds practical knowledge fast. Technicians who come through multi-site roles like this often move into site-level maintenance lead positions or regional maintenance roles, since they've seen more property types and operational setups than someone who spent the same time at a single community.
