What You'll Actually Do

This role puts you at the center of daily property operations at a Fairstead affordable housing community in Virginia Beach. Your week will include scheduled preventative maintenance on building systems, responding to resident work orders, and handling the turns between move-out and move-in. Make-readies are a real part of the job: cleaning and prepping vacated units so they're genuinely ready for incoming residents, not just surface-clean. You'll inspect electrical systems for code compliance, test safety devices monthly, maintain a working inventory of tools and supplies, and participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies. That last part is worth taking seriously. On-call is a real responsibility here, and the role rewards technicians who stay calm and organized when the phone rings at 10pm.

What You Bring

• Hands-on experience in a service technician or general maintenance role
• Working knowledge of electrical systems: diagnosis and minor repairs
• Mechanical aptitude across plumbing, appliances, and building fixtures
• Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 70 pounds unassisted
• Clear written and verbal communication, because work order notes and handoff logs matter
• HVAC certification (EPA 608, CMRP, or equivalent) is preferred and will strengthen your candidacy
• Attention to detail, especially on punch list items during make-readies and safety inspections
