Leasing Consultant

The Role in Brief

Senior Leasing Consultants at mid-to-large apartment operators do more than show units. They own the front-end resident experience, from the first phone call through lease execution, while keeping occupancy numbers where they need to be. At MG Properties, that means working primarily at their Domain community in San Diego, with the possibility of supporting other properties in the market.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Most of your day centers on leasing activity. You're greeting prospects, qualifying applicants, and walking people through the leasing process start to finish. You prepare leases and sit with residents during signing. You coordinate with maintenance to make sure move-ins go smoothly, because a rough move-in is the first impression no one recovers from.

Beyond traffic and tours, there's real administrative work here. Rental files need to stay current. Data entry into the property management system has to be accurate. Monthly reporting tasks and paperwork require organization and follow-through. You're also a point of contact for current residents handling complaints, maintenance requests, and rent collection issues.

  • Greet and qualify prospective residents promptly and professionally
  • Prepare and execute lease agreements with new residents
  • Coordinate with maintenance for smooth move-ins
  • Maintain accurate and current rental files and system data
  • Handle resident concerns including maintenance follow-ups and payment issues
  • Support monthly administrative and reporting tasks

What Sets Strong Candidates Apart

One year of property management experience is preferred. The candidates who stand out aren't just good at tours. They understand the full leasing cycle, keep their files tight, and don't let follow-ups fall through the cracks. San Diego is a competitive rental market with high renter expectations, especially at the Class A level. Prospects here have options, and the difference between a lease and a lost lead often comes down to response time and how well you present the community.

MG Properties promotes from within, and this role is a realistic path toward an Assistant Manager or Property Manager position. If you're looking to build a career in multifamily rather than just work a leasing desk, the structure here supports that. Pay runs $23 to $25 per hour depending on experience, with monthly and quarterly bonuses, profit sharing, and a full benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k with employer match, and rental discounts.
